A decision by a bishop did not go over well with two long-time pastors.
A new pastor was beaten into a coma when the two existing pastors did not want to accept him into the church despite being appointed by the bishop, police in Nigeria said.
Taraba State Police said that they detained two pastors of the United Methodist Church, after being accused of beating their colleague. The problems among the three began when the two pastors refused to accept the newly appointed pastor into the church.
The two pastors were identified as Pastor Nukai, and Pastor Jalingo. The two pastors, who were not happy with the transfer, mobilized members of their church and they began beating the new pastor until he fell unconscious.
The bishop was asked to investigate the incident and punish the two pastors in order deter future attacks. Police said that the two pastors were charged with conspiracy, inciting public disorder and causing serious injuries.
The wounded pastor is currently being treated at the intensive care unit of the Federal Medical Centre.
