A man showed a tremendous amount of love when he decided to get healthier so he can save another human being.

Pan Weizhong, 39, of Shanghai, China, showed the world that there are still good people out there.

Weizhong stopped smoking and drinking, and lost 48 pounds in order to successfully donate his bone marrow to a stranger after receiving a call from the Red Cross.

Weizhong, who is a petrochemical worker, volunteered to be a stem cells donor. A few months ago, he received a call from the Red Cross telling him that his blood type matches that of a sick patient.

He was a match to a 28-year-old woman, who was suffering from leukemia in Wuhan.

Weizhong immediately agreed to donate, however during testing, he was informed that his fatty liver might affect the procedure. In order to successfully donate, he would need to lose weight.

Weizhong started eating healthy and began exercising. He also stopped smoking and drinking to make sure he would be in good health.

Recently, he donated his bone marrow and the procedure was successful. The woman said that without the donation from Weizhong, she might not have lived.

“My greatest wish is to visit the man who helped me in Shanghai, to express my gratitude,” she said.
