(Scroll down for video) Doctors knew that they have to take dramatic steps to save the life of a mother gorilla and its unborn baby.
After being in labor for an agonizing 12 hours, doctors decided to take a rare approach and perform cesarean section on the gorilla mother.
After successfully performing surgery, the adorable baby gorilla was born at San Diego Zoo Safari Park. According to veterinarians, cesarean sections are extremely rare in animals.
Park officials said that the baby’s mother, 18-year-old Imani, went into labor on Wednesday morning, and showed no signs of progress until late that night. Doctors took Imani in the Safari Park veterinary hospital for an emergency operation.
With the help of experts who perform human cesareans, the mother and baby were doing well, proving that doctors made the right decision.
