(Scroll down for video) A couple was devastated when authorities took away their baby after finding legal marijuana in their home.
Police were called to the home after the couple got into an argument. The husband was taken into custody before police returned to take their son.
Officers found that the couple had drugs in their living room while their 11 month old was in the house. Officers allegedly discovered loose marijuana, cannabis oil, and cigarettes on a desk in the living room.
Shawnee and Aaron Hillyer of Napa, California, were shocked when officers said that have a court order to take their 11-month-old son away.
The parents explained that their marijuana was legal. However, officers said that their house had a strong smell of the drugs and that the baby should not be exposed to it.
The couple said that they are hard working people and good parents, and that their drugs were prescribed by a doctor. Aaron Hillyer is reportedly prescribed medical marijuana for anxiety and chronic pain, while Shawnee Hillyer has prescriptions for depression and anxiety.
The couple’s son was in child protective custody for 12 days before being returned, the couple is still facing legal issues.
