A man will spend a long time in prison for raping an 8-year-old girl.

32-year-old Tichaona Chakupa of Marondera, Zimbabwe, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Judge Clever Tsikwa.

Chakupa was initially arrested after being accused of raping his eight-year-old stepdaughter and infecting her with HIV.

Chakupa pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, but was convicted of the charges because of the overwhelming evidence against him.

At sentencing, the judge said that Chakupa deserved a custodial sentence because he traumatized the victim and because he had infected her the virus that causes AIDS.

The court heard that Chakupa and his wife, who is the mother of the victim, left the house to go to work on a farm, leaving the 8-year-old girl with his brothers, two and five years old.

Chakupa returned from work around 12:00 p.m., to prepared food for the children. He then ordered the two boys to go play outside and he told the victim to go to her bedroom to clean it.

Chakupa then followed the child into the bedroom, lifted the girl, laid her on the bed and raped her.

When her mother returned from work, the child told her what had happened. The mother took her daughter to the police and made a report, which led to the arrest of her husband.
