An elderly woman fell in love with a much younger priest.

She wanted a relationship with the priest, but he was not interested.

However, the elderly woman of Germany, did not give up. She harassed and stalked the 59-year-old Catholic priest. She exposed herself and danced in front of him on more than one occasion, a court heard.

The 71-years-old woman, known as Christel G., stalked Rev. Michael Hammerschmidt, for about 13 years with letters, emails, text messages and phone calls declaring her undying love.

Many days, Christel G. could be found decorating the front lawn of the priests house in the Sauerland region, North-Rhine Westphalia, with roses, condoms and love letters.

In court, Christel G. pleaded guilty to harassment and trespassing. The woman claimed that when she met Hammerschmidt back in 2000 at a flower shop, she did not know he was a priest.

For her, it was love at first sight. “It hit me like a lightning bolt,” Christel G. said about the first time she saw Hammerschmidt, but the priest rejected her advances.

The court was concerned about Christel G.’s mental health and was unsure whether prison or psychiatric care would be the most appropriate course of action. However, after hearing the testimony of expert witnesses, the woman was sentenced to 14 months in prison.
