(Scroll down for video) Two police officers suffered serious injuries after a teen set a mattress on fire because he was bored, police in New York said.
Brooklyn Police said that the detained teen told detectives that boredom led him to set fire to the mattress in the hallway of his apartment building.
16-year-old Marcell Dockery was arrested Monday, on charges of assault, arson and reckless endangerment.
The police officers were at the scene of the fire on Sunday afternoon, where two officers were overcome by carbon monoxide and smoke.
They were found unconscious in a hallway on the 13th floor. 36-year-old police officer Rosa Rodriguez, remains in critical condition at Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan, and 38-year-old police officer Dennis Guerra, is in critical condition at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, as a result of the fire.
Police said that Dockery told detectives he tried to put out the fire and warned residents as the flames spread.
