An angry mob set a woman on fire after being accused of kidnapping a baby, police in Nigeria said.
Ilorin Police said that the woman was suspected of kidnapping eight children before being lynched by the crowd on Friday.
The incident took place on Emir Road while the suspect tried to escape. She was stripped by the mob, who later set her on fire while beating her with a machete, sticks and stones.
Police who arrived at the scene, attempted to save the woman, but they were stoned as well. The police left and later returned with reinforcements. Tear gas was fired to disperse the crowd.
The woman died as she was being transported to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital by police. A police spokesperson said that so far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police intend to charge all suspects with murder.
