Two young men were arrested and charged with rape after they allegedly raped an elderly woman who was on her way to a farm, police in Nigeria said.
Delta State Police said that they have arrested two men, Emeka Igwe, 31, and John Igberin, 33, for allegedly raping the 80-year-old grandmother in the area.
According to the initial police investigation, the suspects attacked and raped the woman on her way to the farm. On Thursday at 10:30 a.m., the woman had gone to her farm not far from her home.
She met with the suspects, who told her that they were hunters. The suspects assaulted and dragged her into the jungle, where she was raped.
After raping the grandmother, one of the suspects fled, but he fell into a deep hole. Farmers, who were on their way to the farms, heard the woman screaming and came over to help the woman.
A few feet away they saw the suspect inside the hole. Police arrived at the scene and arrested the man. The suspect led police to his friend’s home where he was arrested.
