(Scroll down for video) School children fled in panic after a 15-year-old boy decided to stab his female teacher to death during class, police in the United Kingdom said.
61-year-old Spanish teacher Anne Maguire of Leeds, was taken to a hospital after the attack, but was later pronounced dead.
The 15-year-old boy was detained by staff at the Corpus Christi Catholic College and was later arrested by police. Eyewitnesses at the scene said that children were seen screaming and running from the classroom after the attack.
Paul Money of the West Yorkshire Police, said that the victim received several stab wounds and a knife was recovered at the scene. No one else was injured during the attack.
Staff members of the school said that they were in shock and the death of Maguire will have a huge impact on her family and the school. Downing Street said that the prime minister’s thoughts were with the family of the victim.
According to the initial police investigation, the 15-year-old boy had a series of arguments with the teacher. The teenager is said to have been treated for depression and had recently experienced family problems. Some students said that he had been drinking and that alcohol bottles were recovered.
