(Scroll down for video) A man was saved when a police officer laid on top of him without a shirt.

The police officer of Canada, went beyond the call of duty in a desperate attempt to save the life of the man.

Strong winds caused the canoe of the 23-year-old man to capsize into the St. Lawrence River near Montreal.

Luckily, the man was wearing a life jacket and he was able to swim through the icy waters.

He used all his energy to climb over a gate and then collapsed. People who witnessed the incident, were able to help him.

One of the bystanders, a nurse, immediately called 911. Police officer David Jutras arrived at the scene.

Since they had no blankets to cover the man the nurse suggested using a “skin to skin” technique, which would keep the victim warm until further help arrived.

Jutras immediately took off his bulletproof vest and shirt, and laid on top of the man to give him as much body heat as possible.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and took the 23 year old, who was showing signs of hypothermia, to a hospital where he was treated and released in good condition.
