Bongani Nyoni, 42, is a married man and a father, who was jailed after not being faithful to his wife.
Nyoni came to Canada, as a refugee from Zimbabwe, where he claims to have been tortured.
He cheated on his wife with three women, and infected them all with HIV. Now, he was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault after did not tell the women that he was HIV positive.
He is facing thirteen years in prison and he will be deported back to Zimbabwe, after serving his sentence.
Nyoni owns an office-cleaning company in Edmonton, where he has worked for the past two years and regularly sent money to his siblings in Zimbabwe.
Nyoni testified at the trial that he told the women he was HIV positive before being sexually active, and always used a condom.
However, the victims testified that they would never have sex with someone who was HIV positive.
Defence attorney Troy Anderson, read letters in court from Nyoni’s supporters, including his wife, with whom he has a two-year-old daughter, a pastor and a representative of a company, which helps African and Zimbabwean immigrants, for whom Nyoni had volunteered.
Nyoni also has two teenage daughters from his first marriage.
