A woman was rushed to a hospital after her belly button exploded while flying home from vacation, a court in the United Kingdom was told.

Patricia Jackson was on a flight back to the United Kingdom from Portugal, when her belly exploded and began leaking liquid that had a bad smell.

Now, she has been awarded $36,000 in compensation. Jackson, 68, said that her ordeal began when she decided to undergo a tummy tuck when she turned 60 years old, because she was not happy with the loose skin after losing a lot of weight.

However, after completing the surgery doctors forgot to remove her old belly button. A year later, during a routine checkup by the surgeon, it was discovered that something went wrong during the surgery.

An ultrasound revealed an infection that was treated with antibiotics. Several years later, Jackson went on holiday to Portugal.

Before flying back home she realized blisters on her old belly button. Then, after she boarded the plane, her belly button exploded and it began to leak, causing the passenger beside her to complain about the smell.

A flight attendant dressed the wound and Jackson was taken to a hospital in Halifax. That’s when doctors discovered that her old bully button was still inside her.

Jackson said that she had suffered years of pain and embarrassment.
