(Scroll down for video) A father’s tough love turned tragic when the father accidentally killed his son.

Darius Adams, 17, was a smart kid with a bright future ahead of him.

He was an Alabama high school football player, a model student and was well liked in his community.

Sadly, he was shot and killed by his own father on Friday.
Sexton Adams, 55, told police that he accidentally shot his son in the stomach around 2:00 a.m., at their McIntosh home.

Mr. Adams told authorities that his son arrived home late, and was acting in a strange and aggressive manner.

The father was allegedly scared by his son’s behavior and pulled his .38 revolver to scare the teen.

“He claimed that he cocked the pistol and it accidentally went off,” a Washington County Sheriff spokesperson said.

The victim was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center, and pronounced dead at about 8:00 a.m.

An autopsy will determine if the teen was on some type of drugs at the time. So far, no charges have been filed in the case.
