(Scroll down for video) A gold-digger is behind bars after marrying a man who was in a coma, so she can take control of his assets, prosecutors in California said.
The Beaumont woman has been sentenced to five years in prison after being accused of fraudulently marrying her boyfriend.
Lenora Reese-McNair married Derek McNair while he unconscious. Reese-McNair pleaded guilty to third-degree felony theft. She was sentenced on Monday.
According to the police, the woman had her son, Jamaal Bush, sign all the documents. However, at her sentencing hearing Reese-McNair claimed that her son is innocent and that she forged his signature. The woman claimed that McNair wanted the assets off his name so he could qualify for Medicaid.
Derek McNair suffered a heart attack and was in a coma for months. Reese-McNair received all of his assets at the time of his death.
After obtaining the marriage license, Reese-McNair filed a power of attorney and then began to forge her husband’s signature on checks she made out to her name.
