(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a child after feeding his girlfriend and a 1-year-old child with marijuana laced cake, police in Illinois said.
Chicago Police said that they arrested 23-year-old Emmanuel Ekaette of Calumet Park, after being accused of intentionally poisoning his girlfriend and the baby.
He was charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault, possession of marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child. The incident began when Ekaette went to his girlfriend’s house on Saturday, and brought a cake full of crushed leaves.
The woman began eating the cake and fed some to the child. When she realized leaves in the cake, she asked her boyfriend what they were. “In fact, she asked him several times and he said it was spices,” prosecutors told the court.
The woman began feeling hazy. She took the child to the hospital and underwent drug testing.
Both she and the child tested positive for marijuana. Police arrested Ekaette on Saturday night.
The cake is being processed at a crime lab.
