A New York man was arrested, charged and convicted of larceny after renting out Flatbush apartments he did not own, the New York Daily News reported.
The incident began when an unsuspecting woman went to look at an apartment in Flatbush.
She paid the security deposit, but she never received the keys to the apartment. 26-year-old Broker Ronald Johnson of Max Realty, couldn’t provide the woman with the keys because the apartment was not his to rent.
Ronald also scammed several other prospective renters. He used to meet his clients on the street and requested security deposits.
Despite not being able to hand over the apartments he cashed the checks. Ronald was tracked down after the bank at which the checks were cashed identified him.
After a trial in Brooklyn Supreme Court, a jury voted to convict Johnson of felony theft charges. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
