Woman who are desperate to pay their bills, began charging as little as 50 cents for sex.

Prostitution used to be known as the foolproof job.

However, due to the economic difficulties facing the country, many prostitutes in Marondera, Zimbabwe, have fallen on hard times.

The increase in prostitution in Marondera, is due to a number of reasons. Among them is the influx of sex workers coming from neighboring areas in search of jobs.

A report done by the Zimbabwe Youth Council in partnership with the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), revealed that girls as young as 12 years old are being forced into prostitution by traffickers, who charge as little as $1 per client.

This trend has caused women to offer two rounds for $1.

Some women said that they were forced to reduce their prices to $1 for services because competition is very tough.

Interestingly enough, prostitutes are having a hard time finding business even when charging just $1 an hour.

“It is better to charge $1 for sex rather than go home empty handed,” one woman said.

On a good day, you can take home $10 – but sometimes you can go home empty-handed, especially in mid month, another woman said.

Some sex workers said that a bottle of beer can buy sex.

Some prostitutes said that it appears that many people have joined the trade to make ends meet. However, it seems like men are being responsible and paying their bills before pleasure, hence the lack of business.
