A family was left in shock after losing three members of their family in a car accident.
A father and his two sons, were passengers in a Toyota Fun Cargo vehicle when the front tire burst and the car rolled over.
Austin Moyo Marihoho, 38, of Zimbabwe, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Zvishavane General Hospital. His 4-year-old son Tinashe Marihoho, was pronounced dead at another hospital.
His eight-year-old son, Takudzwa Marihohodied, died instantly at the scene.
Witnesses said that the vehicle was driven by a police officer of the Criminal Investigation Department in Zvishavane. He fled the scene after the accident, but later surrendered to police.
Witnesses also said that the driver was reckless and clocked 100 km per hour on the narrow road, which caused the tire to explode. The driver lost control of the car and it flipped four times.
According to the initial police investigation, the vehicle was transporting eight adults and two children when it overturned. All passengers were seriously injured and three were killed.
The driver is expected to face an internal police disciplinary hearing before the case goes to court for trial.
