A man was arrested, charged and convicted of assault after stabbing his daughter-in-law in the eye because he thought she was having an affair, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.
Now, the Snaresbrook Crown Court sentenced the man to more than 10 years in prison.
According to police in London, 51-year-old Manjit Singh Mirgind, stabbed his daughter-in-law Jageer Mirgind, on her face after accusing her of cheating on his son. The stabbing left her with serious injuries in both eyes.
Mirgind of north London, was originally charged with attempted murder. Prosecutors agreed to reduce the charge to grievous bodily harm as part of a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors.
The judge told Margind that it was a manic and horrible attack, motivated by the belief that his daughter-in-law had been unfaithful. The man’s grandchildren, aged three and six, witnessed the crime. They begged him to stop but he did not.
