Two injured after cyclist collides with portable toilet as man exited

A freak accident left two people of Indiana, injured.

Emergency workers responded to the accident in Chesterton, on Monday night, involving a cyclist and a man using a portable toilet.

Police were called to assist EMS about 7:30 p.m., because of the incident on the city property near the intersection of Porter Avenue and 5th Street.

According to the victims and witnesses a 52-year-old man was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk when a Pleasant Township man, who had used the restroom, opened the restroom door just as the cyclist passed the portable toilet.

The man on the motorcycle collided with the door of the bathroom, throwing the 68-year-old man back inside and causing him to cut his elbow.

The collision caused the bike rider to fall and he hit his head on the concrete sidewalk. Both were treated at the scene by EMS, and they refused to be transported to a hospital for further observation.
