A woman of China, who lives with 100,000 cockroaches, said that she wants the world to know that they are like her children.

Yuan Meixia of Fujian province, called the bugs “my children, my babies.”

The 37-year-old woman has filled every crack of her home with cement to prevent the insects from escaping. She feeds them every day at 6:00 p.m. Their meals consist of apples, bran and melons.

Although she treats the bugs as her own kids, she ends up drowning, drying and selling them to a pharmaceutical company. Cockroaches are used in traditional medicine and cost up to $130 per kilo.

The woman reported that she is able to sell about 15 kilos of dried bugs once in two months. She began collecting the bugs after watching a television program about cockroaches.

Local government officials have recently urged the woman to build a cockroach breeding factory.
