(Scroll down for video) Illegal immigrants in New York, are rejoicing after learning that a lawmaker is proposing granting them New York State citizenship.

The illegal immigrants will gain the right to vote and obtain driver’s licenses.

The bill is being proposed by state Senator Gustavo Rivera. The bill would require illegals to show that they have paid taxes in New York State for at least three years, and have to take a vow that they will uphold the laws of the state.

Critics call this a ridiculous bill because the people who are targeted by the bill are already living in the country illegally. The bill would also allow those who become New York State citizens to vote in state and local elections and seek public office.

Illegals will be able to get permits, professional business licenses and Medicaid, as well as in-state tuition benefits and other financial support from the school. The bill cannot change the provisions for benefits that are under the control of the federal government in Washington.

About 2.7 million illegals currently live in New York.
