Several soldiers were arrested on charges of kidnapping after they allegedly kidnapped a cellphone store worker because their female friend was unhappy with her new smartphone, police in Nigeria said.

Kaduna Police said that they arrested the eight soldiers after being accused of storming the cellphone store in the Makarfi Plaza, and beating the worker over the cellphone.

The soldiers were led by Lieutenant Mohammed Hamji, whose girlfriend, Kate Michael, complained about her new smartphone she bought the previous day, from the shop. The incident began when Michael went to return her new smartphone, claiming that it no longer worked.

The shop owner, Mohammed Rabiu, took the phone from the woman and snapped about 10 pictures. The phone worked perfectly.

However, the woman refused to take her phone back. The next day, the soldiers arrived at the store, kidnapped the employee and beat him up.

When Rabiu tried to secure the release of his worker he was ordered to bring with him a new cellphone for Michael. Rabiu filed a complaint with the police, who arrested Hamji and the eight soldiers.
