Garbage truck that slammed into Gourmet Deli

(Scroll down for video) Seven people were injured after a garbage truck slammed into a Williamsburg area food store, rescue workers in New York said.

The incident occurred at 2:00 a.m. Friday, on Dekalb and Bedford Avenues in Brooklyn.

Firefighters worked until 5:00 a.m., to remove the truck. However, the store suffered severe damage.

The building has been evacuated and residents of the apartments above were ordered to vacate until the Buildings Department evaluates the structural integrity. Seven people were injured.

According to the police investigation, the garbage truck collided with a Volkswagen Passat in the middle of the intersection, and then spun out of control and into the food store. There were two people inside Gourmet Deli, who were working at the time of the incident.

Both employees suffered cuts and bruises, and were taken to a nearby hospital. The investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, and witnesses said that the driver of the Passat ran a red light.
