A tractor trailer driver was arrested on charges of drug smuggling after being caught with marijuana that looked like watermelons, U.S. Customs agents in Arizona said.
The incident began when a drug cartel of Mexico, decided to use their painting skills to smuggle millions of dollars of marijuana into the United States.
Customs and Border Protection agents pulled over the trailer on Thursday night on Interstate 19, south of Tucson. The driver told officers that he was transporting a shipment of watermelons.
When officers inspected the items using X-rays, they discovered that the marijuana packages were actually painted to look like watermelons. The contents of the trailer were discovered at a checkpoint near Tucson.
Officials from the Drug Enforcement Administration later took custody of the contraband and the tractor trailer. The estimated value of the marijuana is in the millions of dollars.
The driver of the truck remains in custody.
