A woman was freed after being kidnapped thanks to her kidnapper’s dog.

Authorities in southern New Mexico, said that the suspected kidnapper was arrested after his own dog turned on him.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s investigators said that they arrested Gabriel Garcia, after he kidnapped a 26-year-old woman.

Authorities said Garcia met the woman at a party and took her car keys. Garcia later contacted the woman through a friend on Facebook, to arrange to return the keys.

The woman agreed to met with Garcia, who then bought alcohol and asked the woman to come to his home, authorities said.

About 10:00 p.m., the woman asked for the keys and a ride home. Garcia refused and allegedly made sexual advances toward the woman, but she did not want to have sex with him.

When Garcia left the room to get another beer the woman called 911. Garcia heard the conversation, and became angry. He allegedly pushed the woman down a flight of stairs and ordered his pit bull terrier to bite her.

However, the dog attacked him instead. The dog bit Garcia on the arm. Garcia then grabbed a hammer, threatened to kill the woman and dragged her by the hair to his bedroom, authorities said.

The woman managed to escape and called 911 a second time, authorities said.

Garcia was charged with second-degree kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.
