(Scroll down for video) A 4-year-old girl is being called a hero after she saved the wrong man from being jailed and led police to the real suspects.

A mother hired a 17-year-old girl to babysit her daughter at their home in Washington.

However, instead of protecting the 4-year-old Abby and her home, the teen arranged for her 16-year-old boyfriend and 18-year-old Ruben J. Benjamin, to rob the home.

The two men came to the home and ordered the babysitter and Abby, to get out of the home so they can steal things.

The men made off with the child’s piggy bank, a Wii, an Xbox and an iPod.

The babysitter then called police and told them that they were robbed at gunpoint by two black men, one who she recognized as a neighbor of the victims.

After describing the men, police arrested the neighbor, 25-year-old Cody Oakes, who matched the description. He was questioned and held for many hours.

However, the babysitter, who has not been named because of her age, did not realize that their was a star witness to the case. When officers questioned the 4-year-old girl she told them that the thieves were two white males.

The babysitter was questioned again and finally confessed that she and her boyfriend were involved, and that the black men had nothing to do with the robbery, the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office said.

“It’s sad because she doesn’t realize the dangerous situation she put me in,” Oakes said after he was released from prison.

Both men were later found at a motel and allegedly admitted to the burglary. All stolen items were recovered.
