(Scroll down for video) A woman was in court fighting for custody of her young daughter.
However, five days after winning custody, she abandoned the child in a field.
34-year-old Stacey Nikkel of California, was arrested after her 2-year-old daughter was found alone in the field.
Two passerby found in the child strapped into the stroller, which had tipped over and was left unattended, deputies said.
Sadly, authorities believe that the child was alone on the empty field from 10:30 p.m., until she was found around 9:00 a.m. the next morning.
The child was unharmed and was placed in protective custody. Deputies located and arrested the child’s 34-year-old mother, who is a resident in the Tehachapi area.
Just before the incident, a couple who had the child for almost two years, had been trying to adopt her.
Nikkel and the couple had been locked in a battle for custody of the child. The baby’s father is reportedly in trouble on spouse abuse charges.
The judge at the hearing gave custody back to Nikkel. Five days later, she was arrested on charges of child neglect, child abandonment, and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
She was booked into the Central Receiving Jail in Bakersfield, and her bail was set at $20,000.
The toddler is once again in the care of the family who wanted to adopt the her.
