(Scroll down for video) A young girl’s life ended in tragedy when a mother was more concerned about her own car getting dirty than the safety of her children.
Police said that the woman was intoxicated when she ordered six children to ride on the roof and trunk of the car because they were wet from swimming.
What was supposed to be a short ride to their home, ended the life of 12-year-old Octavia Watkins of Texas.
The girl died days after she fell from the roof of the car. Watkins was removed from life support after she suffered severe head injuries in the fall last week, and was hospitalized since then.
39-year-old Kisha Young, ordered the six children to ride on the hood and in the trunk of her Chevrolet Malibu, because their clothes were wet after they had been swimming at the Creekside Community Pool.
Young, who was driving the car, was arrested and charged with intoxication assault, a felony of the third degree, injury to a child and DWI with a child. Her bond was set at $110,000.
The mother of Watkins, who was a passenger in the car while her daughter was on the roof, may also be charged.
