(Scroll down for video) A thief who wanted to steal a parking meter, smashed his car in the process, a video uploaded to the Internet showed.

Police in the United Kingdom said that the 25-year-old man and his friend arrived at an Asda supermarket on Pearson Street, Brierley Hill, about 5:45 a.m. to steal the parking meter.

The Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that the entire episode was recorded on surveillance cameras. Security guards watched as the suspects, both masked, try to remove the machine from the ground.

After a few minutes of trying, Wesley Bristow can be seen on video getting into his car and ramming into the parking meter. He successfully breaks the parking meter, ripping it from its base.

However, the thief smashed his car in the process. Then the two tried to fit the machine in their car.

They can be seen on video forcing the door shut, breaking some more parts of their car. About a mile away, police caught up with the two.

The machine held about 1,000 pounds ($1,715). The car suffered 5,500 pounds ($9,400) in damages.

The main suspect was jailed for two years, one year for the theft and another year for violating probation. He was also banned from driving for two years.
