A woman was arrested after she pretended to be a doctor so she can give full physical exams to men.
The woman of Pennsylvania, posed as a doctor and did physical examinations on at least two male patients in her home, police said.
Investigators allege that 56-year-old Joann Elizabeth Wingate, geared her services towards truck drivers who need updated physicals to keep their CDL license.
The fraud came to light after Wingate examined a California truck driver. He saw a sign about her services at a truck stop.
Wingate charged $65 for an exam and handed the men a false medical certificate containing the license information of Dr. Barbara Wingate, a psychiatrist in the Philadelphia area.
The criminal investigation began when the trucker of California, was informed by the authorities that there was a problem with the forms faxed to them by Wingate.
The driver told officers that “Dr. Wingate,” made a thorough examination, and she required him to provide a urine sample.
Wingate, a resident of Cumberland County, was arrested on felony forgery, fraud and identity theft charges. She is held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
State Department records show that Wingate held two separate chiropractic licenses, one of which is described as “inactive” and the second license was suspended last year due to “advertising violations.”
