A pastor and his followers were accused of torturing a 13-year-old boy.
The pastor of California, and two of his followers pleaded guilty to injuring the 13-year-old boy.
Prosecutors said that they pinched the child with pliers, beat him with a shovel, and forced him to dig a grave.
They also threatened him with death.
56-year-old Lonny Remmers, runs the Corona’s Heart of Worship Community Church, which has about 20 members. The church also runs a group home for children.
Authorities said that Remmers and two of his followers brutally disciplined the boy to set him straight.
Remmers and Nicholas Craig, both 24, and Darryll Jeter Jr., 30, were all arrested after police said they tortured the 13-year-old boy by beating him savagely, rubbing salt into his open wounds and forcing him to dig his own grave.
All three pleaded guilty to charges of inflicting corporal injury to a child, assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats.
Craig and Jeter were sentenced to one year of house arrest and three years probation.
The pastor is facing two years in prison. He has also been charged with wire fraud and conspiracy in a separate federal case.
Prosecutors said they agreed to a plea deal because of the state of the evidence, and because the child and his family wanted to avoid a trial.
