(Scroll down for video) Police said that the streets in Oklahoma, are now safer after a serial rapist died.
The man crashed his car moments after raping a woman.
30-year-old Desmond Campbell, was in critical condition at Saint Francis Hospital, after he fell asleep at the wheel of his car.
DNA confirmed that Campbell was the man behind a series of sexual assaults in Tulsa, a court heard. However, before police were able to arrest him, Campbell died.
Campbell’s car hit a light pole on I-44 about 10 minutes after his latest assault was reported to police.
Campbell was suspected of at least seven sexual assaults in one month. After the single-car accident, the police used DNA to connect Campbell to all those sexual assaults, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations.
District attorney Tim Harris said his office was in the process of filing criminal charges when the death of Campbell was reported.
Campbell was to be charged with ten sexual assault charges, seven burglaries and six robberies.
“The death of Mr. Campbell is not going to provide justice for victims in a criminal court of law. However, he will face justice from a higher authority,” said assistant prosecutor Steve Kunzweiler.
