A rabbi of a synagogue was beaten in an unprovoked attack, police in Morocco said.
A young man punched the rabbi in Casablanca on Friday.
Moshe Ohayon said that he was walking to his synagogue for Shabbat prayers when he was attacked. The unidentified assailant asked: “Are you Jewish? What is the IDF doing to our brothers?” Before launching the attack.
Ohayon said he was beaten to the ground until he lost consciousness. Ohayon suffered three broken ribs as a result of the attack.
Morocco’s Jewish community numbered nearly 300,000 in the mid 1900s, or 10 percent of the population of the North African country.
Their numbers were drastically reduced in the decades after the 1948 founding of the Jewish State, and today only about 5,000 Jews remain.
So far, no arrests have been made.
