The commercial sex worker of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has sold her one-day-old baby for N20,000 ($125).

In February, a man was arrested after allegedly selling his baby daughter to religious extremists, police in Nigeria said. Delta State Police said that they have arrested Christopher David, a construction business owner, for allegedly selling his daughter for ritual slaughter behind his wife’s back.

David’s plans was foiled after his wife Florence, called the police. The man received N200,000 ($1,200) for the sale. According to the initial police investigation, the couple found it difficult to support their child and they decided to give her up for adoption.

However, Christopher David sold the baby to a woman identified as Grace, an agent for a ritual slaughter group.
