A good deed turned into a tragedy when a man was killed for the blanket he received as a gift.

27-year-old Papa Rantsane, who lived on the streets of Auckland Park, Johannesburg, South Africa, was delighted with his new blanket.

However, he only owned it for a few hours, after which he was stabbed and killed. His friend, Thuso Mokoko, 26, said that Rantsane was one of a small number of lucky people, who received blankets from a pastor.

Later, Rantsane was approached by people, who accused him of stealing the blanket from their friend. Before he was able to explain, he was stabbed in the ribs.

It was later revealed that another man who received a blanket, gave it to his friend for safe keeping. However, someone stole it.

When people saw the homeless man in possession of the same blanket they assumed that he was the thief. They stabbed him, took the blanket and fled the scene.

Someone called an ambulance, but they were unable to save his life. Rantsane was declared dead at the scene.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lorraine van Emmerik, said that police are investigating the incident, but so far, no arrests have been made.
