(Scroll down for video) Police rushed to a landfill after passersby suspected that a body was dumped there, police in Florida said.
Hernando County Police said that the man’s body ended up in the landfill after a cleaning crew mistook it for a mannequin.
The incident began when a worker smelled something foul at the West Hernando Transfer Station, and called police. When officers arrived, they found human remains in one of the bins.
The remains belonged to 33-year-old Jeremy Witfoth, who committed suicide in the garage of a private residence on the 6000 block of Treehaven Drive in Spring Hill.
The cleaning crew arrived at the house on Thursday, and said that they thought it was a prank by the former tenants. They cut down the body, placed it on top of garbage in the back of their van and took it to the landfill.
Witfoth hanged himself sometime in the last few weeks. His body was in a state of decomposition similar to mummification.
No foul play is suspected.
