(Scroll down for video) A family of Kansas, is devastated over the loss of an adorable little girl.
5-year-old Cadence Harris, died after a man abducted her and led police on a chase with the child in his car.
The incident began around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, when Cadence was kidnapped by her mother’s abusive boyfriend.
The suspect, who was identified as Marcus McGowan, was dating the girl’s mother, Christie Harris, when he took the girl from her home.
Police in both Missouri and Kansas, were involved in the chase as the suspect crossed the state line before the incident ended in the city of Leavenworth, Kansas.
At some point, the suspect got out of his vehicle and pointed a gun at officers. They exchanged fire, causing the death of the little girl.
Police are investigating. However, at this point, it is unclear if the child was killed by her abductor or by a police officer’s bullet.
McGowan was seriously injured and hospitalized in Kansas City. He is expected to make a full recovery.
The child’s mother said that McGowan was abusive to her, and was convicted twice for domestic assault, but he never hurt her daughter.
