An elderly woman faced off with thieves who broke into her home and won, police in India said.
Ratlam Police honored the 85-year-old woman, a former teacher in a government school, for bravery after she helped them catch two thieves on Saturday night.
The widow, Premlata, was all alone, as all her four children work in Mumbai. The incident began on Saturday night, as she was sleeping in her room when two men tried to sneak in.
The woman woke up from the noise coming from the window.
She saw the two thieves and charged at them with a bucket of water. She grabbed a stick that was laying nearby and hit both criminals.
Her screams woke the neighbors who immediately informed the police. Within ten minutes, they caught the thieves.
Premlata was called to the police station to identify the criminals. She demanded that the thieves do stomach crunches as punishment.
As for her bravery, police awarded her RS5,000 ($83) and a mobile phone. Both suspects were arrested.
