(Scroll down for video) A football game between Maccabi Haifa and Lille in Austria, was disrupted when the Israeli players came under attack by pro-Palestinian protesters, a video uploaded to the Internet showed.
With Lille leading 2 to 0, the violent protesters raided the field and turned the friendly game into a fighting match.
The rioters tried to attack Captain Yossi Benayoun, and other staff members.
The Israeli team members fought back and defended themselves until security officers gained control over the situation.
The game was canceled. None of the Israeli players were injured during the fight.
“We have experienced an uncomfortable atmosphere of violence on the field and in the stands. The attack was premeditated and dangerous in light of incitement in the Turkish media. Protesters were mostly immigrants from Turkey,” Maccabi Haifa said in a statement.
