(Scroll down for video) A rabbi was hospitalized after being beaten by four teens in an unprovoked anti-Semitic attack, police in the United Kingdom said.
Gateshead Police said that they have charged the four teenagers in connection with the assault on the local rabbi.
The 40-year-old victim was attacked while leaving a yeshiva in the center of the largest Orthodox Jewish community in Bensham.
The incident unfolded on Rydal Street in the early hours of Friday morning.
19-year-old Qaiser Malik, and 18-year-old Balawal Sultan, both of Newcastle, and a 16 and 17-year-old man, were charged with racially aggravated assault.
They were brought before the South Tyneside Magistrate’s Court for bail hearings.
Northumbria Police are also investigating a racist tweet in connection with the incident. The tweet shows a picture of what was described as a Jewish primary school and the message: “This Jewish school in Gateshead cheered when the bombs fell in Palestine.”
