A pilot was arrested, charged and convicted of sexual assault after sexually assaulting a teen girl during a flight from Michigan to Utah, prosecutors in Utah said.
On Wednesday, 46-year-old Michael James Pascal, was sentenced to more than two years in prison for groping the 14-year-old girl, who was sitting beside him.
Pascal of Park City, said that whatever the sentence is, he will accept it, saying that he hopes to be a good father during his time in prison.
According to police, the teenager woke from a nap and saw Pascal’s hand under her, grabbing her behind. She pushed him and yelled: “What the hell are you doing?”
She remembered lowering the armrest between them, but when she woke up, someone had pushed it up. Pascal took his hand out from under her, saying: “Sorry, sorry, I was asleep, I have to go to the bathroom.”
Pascal told investigators that he fell asleep with his hands in his lap and could not remember where his hand was when he woke up.
He said that he raised the armrest between him and the girl because the man on the other side was taking up too much space.
Pascal lost his job when he was charged. A jury found him guilty of two counts of abusive sexual contact related to the incident. Pascal was ordered to serve 60 months of probation after his release.
He was also ordered to list himself on the sex offender registry.
