The three-year-old boy of New Delhi, India, fell into the huge boiling pot containing sugar syrup after his mother was hit by a speeding e-rickshaw in Trilokpuri.
The boy was rushed to a hospital, but doctors were unable to save him and he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident took place when the mother who was identified as Pinky, carried her three-year-old son Dev in her arms.
As she was standing outside a candy store, the speeding e-rickshaw hit her, causing the boy to fall out of her arms and into the huge pot containing boiling sugar syrup, which was outside the store.
The pot of syrup was being prepared for jalebis, a popular sweet in India.
While Pinky tried to pull her son out of the boiling pot, she also suffered burns. She was taken to the Safdarjung Hospital where she recovered.
Relatives of the victim staged a protest outside the police station in Mayur Vihar, and demanded the immediate arrest of the rickshaw driver, who fled the scene after the incident.
Police are considering taking action against the owner of the candy store as he placed the pot of boiling syrup on the road.
