A Hassidic rabbi was assaulted in an unprovoked attack, police in Sweden said.
Malmo Jewish Community Rabbi Shneur Kesselman, was attacked on Saturday night.
The rabbi was on his way home from synagogue at 9:00 p.m., when the attack occurred. He was accompanied by Hugo Klein, a member of his congregation.
Klein told police that a glass bottle was thrown at them, which crushed against the wall behind them. It was thrown from a car with several men, who shouted ‘f*** Jews,” said Klein.
“We are not safe on the streets anymore,” Klein added. Rabbi Kesselman said: “It is terrible. There is no other word. It’s a shame.”
The rabbi also said that people feel threatened because they are Jews. “There are people who hate Jews,” he added. However, the rabbi feels that ordinary citizens are supportive of the Jewish community.
Police are looking for the suspects, but so far, no arrests have been made.
