A family was horrified as they watched the park being closed for the night, while they sat inside a Ferris wheel.
The family of five, was trapped on top of the Ferris wheel at an adventure park after staff turned off the lights and started closing.
Darren and Lynzie Riggs-Long of London, England, were trapped inside the ride along with their three children, Kieran, 10, Lewis, 6, and 3-year-old Jack.
According to Mr. Riggs-Long, 38, the family was on top of the ride when staff began turning the lights off all the rides just before 10:00 p.m.
It was cold and very dark, and they were left swinging in the wind to what seemed like eternity. The family began screaming for help as they did not want to be stranded for the night.
Staff members at the Adventure Island in Southend, Essex, finally heard the family’s pleas for help. One staff member waited near the Ferris wheel to sooth the family that they will be rescued while others restarted the ride.
Surveillance video showed that the ordeal lasted a heart stopping 2 minutes and 58 seconds.
A spokesperson said: “The health and safety of our customers is of paramount concern to Adventure Island.”
“We regret that the Riggs-Long family was unfortunately left for a very short period of time at the top of the Ferris wheel, and we have offered bracelets and meals as compensation.”
The parents said that they had planned to stay in Southend-on-Sea for four days, but cut their holiday short following the ordeal, which left them all traumatized.
