(Scroll down for video) A woman is under investigation after allowing birds to eat her dead husband because he wanted to be part of the cycle of life, police in Indiana said.
Lafayette Police said that 88-year-old Gerald Gavan, had been dead since at least last July, before officers discovered his body on the floor of his living room.
Gavan’s wife, Ila Solomon, said that her husband died just days before the officers found him.
She said that she left the side door of the room open every night, so that his body should be eaten by birds, according to his wishes.
An insect expert determined that Gavan had been dead at least since July of last year. Solomon said that she will hire her own expert in an attempt to refute the official record.
The exact cause of death remains undetermined. Solomon, 54, was married at least three times before she married Gavan.
