A doctor is under fire after refusing to treat an elderly woman because she is Jewish.
The doctor in Belgium, told the 90-year-old woman with a fractured rib, to go Gaza to get rid of her severe pain.
“I will not help,” the doctor said before he hung up after receiving the call at 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bertha Klein, had a broken rib and was suffering from excruciating pain.
Her son, a U.S. citizen, called the doctor and asked for help on her behalf. “Send her to Gaza for a few hours, then she will get rid of the pain,” the doctor told the man.
Samuel Markowitz, a member of the Antwerp District Council and a volunteer paramedic, also called the doctor and confronted him about his statements.
Markowitz recorded their conversation. Hershy Taffel, a grandson of Bertha Klein, filed a discrimination complaint with the police.
The doctor did not deny his comments saying that he had an emotional reaction. Health Ministry officials are investigating the incident.
