A teen was arrested on charges of sedition after allegedly liking the “I Love Israel” Facebook page, police in Malaysia said.
The 17-year-old boy of Penang, said that he is receiving death threats ever since liking the Facebook page.
When he filed a complaint with the police, they have responded by placing the child under investigation for sedition. A school teacher of the teen responded to the student’s like with a death threat, writing: “We just burn.”
The teen denies liking the “I Love Israel” Facebook page. A family member of the child said that they are looking for an apology from the teacher and the school.
Department of Education Director Osman Hussain, said that he is considering the possibility of transferring the teacher to a different school.
He also warned teachers to refrain from posting threats against students on social media sites. “We are investigating the boy for sedition,” Penang Police Chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said.
If found guilty, he could be fined up to $1,500 or jailed for three years.
