(Scroll down for video) Some customers of a large supermarket in London, England, are calling the management’s move of removing kosher products from its shelves in order to protest Israel, a hate crime.
However, a spokesperson for the Sainsbury’s located in Holborn, said that the supermarket removed kosher items in fear of pro-Hamas protests.
The branch manager of the store ordered the kosher section to be empty on Saturday afternoon, as protesters picketed outside to call for a boycott of Israeli products.
The move caused outrage after a photo of the empty shelves was posted on social media sites. The section contained kosher food made in the U.K. and Poland.
“A staff member said ‘We support a Free Gaza,’” a witness at the scene said. The spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said that the kosher food will return to the shelves as soon as practical.
“No investigation or action against the branch manager will be taken,” the spokesperson said.
